BCCI announces match fee parity for men and women cricketers

India’s women’s cricketers will now earn a match fee at par with the men’s cricketers, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced on Thursday. The decision was taken at the BCCI Apex Council Meeting. Roger Binny, the BCCI president, said, “In our Apex Council meeting today, we have made a marquee decision on pay equity for our women cricketers. Our women players will be paid the same match fees as men in international cricket. This decision sets the platform to grow and develop cricket. I believe this is a significant step forward for women’s cricket and the game overall.” This decision by the BCCI means that the women’s players will now earn INR 15 lakh for every Test, INR 6 lakh for every ODI and INR 3 lakh for every T20I they play, making them the third board after Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket to have equal pay. However, a massive disparity in the central contract pay of the men and women cricketers remains.
